Did you know that injuries that happen at work are not covered by your health insurance?

Let’s say that you work at a restaurant.  One day, you trip and spill hot oil on your foot.  Your foot sustains severe burns, and you have to keep weight off of it for several months.  This means, you are not working for a while!  And, your income is going away for a while!

Luckily, there is a type of insurance for just this type of situation.

Workers compensation insurance was created to pay for the medical bills incurred after the injury.  And, it also pays for a part of your lost wages.  Most states have legal requirements that employers carry this type of insurance to protect their employees.  Rules vary by state, number of employees and type of employer.  (Some occupations are exempt from the requirement to purchase workers compensation insurance.)
